Jesus tells Martha that her brother will rise again. Martha excuses this for religious jargon. “I know we’ll be together in the end,” she says back disappointed. She didn’t realize that Jesus told her exactly what he planned to do. She was too short-sighted to see it.
Sometimes, our expectations cause us to miss out on God’s greatest plans. We expect something so small and so simple we miss out on what God really wants to do. We expect for God to delay a bill not provide the income. We expect God to keep our marriages together not make them flourish. We expect God to do something but we doubt and don’t ask for him to do great things. She was blind to God’s promise because her expectations were too low.
God is doing something. Are you just looking past it because you expect too little of him?
