Our rest is so important. The commandment to Sabbath in the Old Testament is sometimes viewed as God’s way of forcing faith on to people, proving that he would provide on just six days work, but what if the Sabbath was about something more? What if God wanted us to rest a day of the week so we’d be better on the other six? Like what if resting is almost like a break at work? You sit down for a few minutes and compose yourself, rest your feet, so you can get back to work with a fresh mind a better attitude.
God wants us rested and he wants us to have those days of peace because when we’re over worked and stressed we’re even more likely to fall into our struggles. When the day has been terrible and work has been a drag and the week won’t end and you thought it was Thursday but it’s only Tuesday and nothing is going right, the temptation to bite someone’s head off is going to be insane. However, if I’m rested and relaxed, and I am ready for the day, those temptations don’t seem to have the same hold on me. I’m more patient, I’m more relaxed, I’m stronger when it comes to my temptation.
Do you rest? Do you take the time to reset and get your mind right? Are you moving into a day filled with temptations, at your absolute best? Or are you functioning at half capacity because you refuse to rest?
