We saw how terribly David fell due to his temptations. We’ll all face temptations in our lives, but what can we do to help overcome those moments? What can we do to build a system of support to stay strong in the face of our temptations?
This one seems simple, buts it’s often the most forgotten. In the middle of our temptation, we often forget to simply pray and ask God for strength. Prayer is one of those things that we go to as a last resort when in reality it should be our first stop. The Bible even tells us we don’t have because we simply don’t ask God in faith. Now, this doesn’t mean ask for a winning lotto ticket, but when we ask God for the blessings he has for us he’ll not hold them back. He’ll give us strength and courage and the things we need to overcome.
This is what Jesus did actually. When he was tempted in the desert he didn’t get an accountability buddy or phone a friend, he prayed through his struggles. He gave us an example of how we can set up for success in our temptation and it started with a devotion to seeking God in those moments of weakness.
When was the last time you prayed about your temptation? What have you asked Jesus to help you overcome? Do you try to tackle it alone or do you lean on the strength of God?
