You are Serving the Lord – Colossians 3:18-25

We miss this a lot. We run like crazy from scheduled event to scheduled event, with our phones glued to our hands, our senses in overload from advertising, media, and propaganda, and we forget about the things we’re currently doing. We can get so caught up in the next moments that we miss the moment we’re currently in. So instead of showing kindness on the road and letting someone pass, we race faster to get ahead. Instead of tipping well to show love and grace, we judge our servers and make them hate the Sunday after church crowd even more. We let countless opportunities go by because we’ve placed God in a box on our calendar and haven’t made room for him anywhere except where we pencil him in.

This verse ends the chapter with the same amazing concept it started it with. You’ve been raised with Christ. You have been forgiven and redeemed and instead of spending the next forty years wasting your life in meaningless “passions” give it to the thing you were called to do. Give every moment, the days at your desk at work, the car rides home, the weekend projects, the conversations with your kids, the actions towards your spouse; give it all to the one who will make something great from it.

Whatever you do, do it as if you were serving the Lord.
