Seeking His Kingdom.
Goals are great. Our goals keep us focused. They measure our success. They are valuable parts of progress in this life. But what about the next life?
Jesus told his followers, “seek first the kingdom of Heaven, and all these things will be added to you.”
For many of us, our goals, our agendas, and our plans are all about right here and right now. Our plans are about getting where we want to be. They’re about living in the right place. They’re about having a standard of living. They’re about acquiring a certain state of being. They are very focused on the here and now. Even in our faith, we want to feel Jesus now. We want the worship to move us, we want to see the results of our work. We want to reward now.
Jesus warned his followers about living this way. He warned them to evaluate their goals. There was a much greater kingdom to give your life towards. Why waste it on anything less?
