Imagine it’s all over… now.
What if you died? What if you died right now. The last message you sent was your last. The breath you’re drawing now is your final breath. You are dead. You are gone. Your family, loved ones, friends, sit down to mourn and to rejoice your life. They’re having a great time. And someone who is there but doesn’t know you asks, “tell me about their life.”
What would they say?
Would the story be about how hard you worked at your job? Would they talk about your last raise? Would they share that you beat out Johnson for that promotion because you put hours upon hours into staying late and getting ahead? Would they pull out your bank statements? Would they share the last update on your portfolio? Or maybe they’d pull out a picture of your house and brag about how big it was. They’d talk about your shoe collection, right? They’d definitely want to have a look at your car.
No, none of those things would matter. They’d talk about your character, your love, what you were passionate about, and the changes you’d made. Yet we spend most of our time on those aforementioned things and little to no time on the later. We don’t invest in people or love, or family. They’ll wait cause we need a bigger house.
If you died today, right now, would you be happy about what people said about you? Would they have anything to say at all? If not, why not start investing in some of those things more than money and stuff?
