Faith can be a problem. Let’s be honest. It’s easy to look really good on paper and have no real time with Jesus. It’s easy to let your heart get hard and start living a rigid structured, and Christless life. Some call it legalism. Others call it obedience. The scripture calls it vanity. It’s empty. It’s worthless. When we follow our own rules and not our Savior we’ve missed the point. And when we make choices about our life we go days without speaking to him in the scripture and prayer, how can we genuinely say that we’ve followed him at all?
We’ve got to repurpose our faith. We’ve got to change it up and fix the ritual we put ourselves in. Where we throw ourselves on autopilot, color inside the lines, live out the American dream with a Jesus looking spin and assume we’re following Jesus. Yet he wants more for us. He wants us to actually follow him. He doesn’t want us to memorize the verse. He doesn’t want us to have Bible studies about following him, and he doesn’t want us to spend hours discussing what it really means to “follow.” One author once said, “Simon says follow and we follow. Jesus says follow and we memorize that verse.”
We’ve got to get the cold, empty ritual out of the way and become a people who actually seek and passionately follow Jesus.
Does this sound like your life? Just know, God wants more for you. He wants you to put away the weights of this world, look to him, and run the race set before you.
Follow Jesus. It really is that simple.
