There is a constant struggle between flesh and spirit. There are things I know I want, but there are things I know God wants for me. This can create a real war within us to determine who we will follow.
This week we’re going to be talking about how we can learn to follow God’s leading and be Obedient rather than succumbing to the desires of our flesh.
Today, before we jump into the “how” take some time to focus on the “why.” Why should we follow God? Why should I ignore my flesh and listen to the spirit?
Romans 8:13 says if we live by our flesh we will die, but if we live in the spirit we will have life.
Giving in can often feel like the way to freedom. It can feel like we’re being restrained when God calls us away from something. However, what this passage is reminding you and me is that the things we think will bring life to us, the things our flesh want and desire are the very things that take that life away. The desires of our flesh are the things that destroy us and bring death. That means God isn’t keeping something from you, it means he’s keeping you from something that would ruin you.
Listen to the spirit. Trust its leading. Follow God’s word. It is in this that we truly find life.
