Acknowledge the good.
It’s easy to go through the motions when we interact with someone. The usual surface level conversations. We ask about work, kids, hobbies, and random facts we know, and before we know it, we’ve moved on and although we’ve spent time with someone, we’ve not grown, we’ve simply been somewhere.
God created each of us. He pieced us together long before we were born, and he intentionally added things to each of us that would be the spice of our life. Some people are just plain out funny. They make you laugh no matter what. Other have incredible intelligence. They’re the people you know you can go to with anything. Still others have empathy. It’s the people that seem to just overflow with understanding and compassion. We’ve all been made a little different and sometimes we forget that.
Next time you sit down with someone and talk to them, try and figure out what it is that God put in them. Get to know them. Look for the natural things in them that God placed there. This doesn’t mean they’re perfect, or even following Jesus, it’s just acknowledging the gifting and grace of God in another person. It will help you to truly know them better.
