Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Such a beautiful and forgotten truth of the Bible. In our consumer culture, we’ve found it easier and easier to want and be satisfied with other things. We find it in our relationships. We find it in food. We find it in shopping. We find it in work. We find it in substances. We find our satisfaction elsewhere.

If the Lord truly is my shepherd, he is enough. That doesn’t mean we have nothing but him, but it does mean we need nothing but Him. Because he makes me lie down beside green pastures and leads me beside still water. He provides some of the things that make this life better, but ultimately he is the real reward.

What is your reward? The God who created this world or the world he created? Which one do you spend more time living for?
