Jonah risked the lives of every man on that boat because he thought his relationship with God was his own. He risked their lives because he thought he could live isolated from the people around him. If he just got out of Israel and went on to do something else no one would ever be bothered.
We want to live this way as well. We hope, even pray, that our decisions will not hurt those around us but the truth is, the world doesn’t work that way. Your life does come in contact with other people and your decisions can hurt them. Your decisions can also help them. What you decide to do can have a real impact – either positive or negative – on the people around you.
What kind of impact are you having on others? Are you leaving a positive impression on the people in your circle or are you breaking people down one decision at a time? We can’t make our decisions based solely on whether or not they are good for others and we’re fooling ourselves if we truly think the way we live does not contribute or hurt those around us.
